I sit on decisions I could make today, then let them drag on for weeks. I say exactly what I'm going to do, then quietly don't do it. I avoid the one task that actually matters and stay busy with everything else. I only really execute when someone's watching or waiting on me. The person I describe myself as isn't the person running my days.

A decision that could move the business has been sitting open. Why is it still sitting?

I keep gathering more input instead of just calling it. I decided a while ago, I've just been inconsistent about acting on it. It's the hard one, so I keep finding easier things to do first. Nobody's holding me to a deadline on it, so it drifts. Making it means becoming someone I'm not sure I am yet.

Think about the commitments you make to yourself. What usually happens to them?

I hesitate to even commit, because committing forces me to choose. I commit fully, then follow through in bursts instead of steadily. I commit, then let the important one slide under a pile of smaller wins. I keep the ones other people can see and drop the ones only I know about. I make them as the person I want to be, then live them as the person I've always been.

It's a normal Tuesday. Where does your day actually go?

Stuck on a couple of calls I can't decide how to make. Onto things I meant to be doing daily but only touch some days. Into everything except the one project I've been dodging for a month. Toward whatever someone else is expecting from me, in that order. Into motion that looks nothing like the CEO I say I'm building.

What do you privately negotiate with yourself about most?

Whether to pull the trigger, over and over, without ever pulling it. Whether today's finally the day I do the thing I said I'd do daily. Getting to the hard thing right after one more easy thing. Whether it matters if I skip it, since no one will know either way. Who I told everyone I'd become versus who I'm willing to be today.

Something important didn't get done this month. What's the honest reason?

I never actually decided to do it. I decided, I started, and I didn't keep it up. I kept pushing it aside for something easier and less important. Nobody was checking on it, so it quietly fell off. It wasn't something the current version of me actually does.

Your business has real traction. What's the true ceiling on it right now?

The decisions I sit on instead of making. The gap between what I plan and what I sustain. The important work I keep postponing. The fact that I move only when I'm accountable to someone. The distance between who I say I am and how I actually operate.

I could have decided that months ago, and I still haven't. I'm great at starting and terrible at staying with it. I'm always busy, just rarely on the thing that counts. I perform for other people and coast when I'm on my own. I don't fully trust myself to be who I keep saying I'll be.

Making decisions faster and standing behind them. Doing what I said I'd do every day, not just some days. Finally facing the thing I've been avoiding. Someone in my corner I genuinely answer to. Closing the gap between who I am and who I've been telling everyone I'd be.
